Elfri is originally from Guatemala and grew up right next to the highest volcano in the country—Tajumulco. He has been working at Jubilee Climate Farm (JCF) for two years and enjoys working with all different types of crops—he especially enjoys sweet potatoes. Elfri is also excited about the fruit trees at JCF:
"They call my attention; when I get to see the first fruits, it’s unexplainable the joy I get."
Elfri’s first time hearing about JCF was from a friend back home, and he started by tending to his own land in the community gardens. Immediately, it was apparent how much Elfri cared for and was passionate about this sphere of work, and it was only fate that Tom would invite Elfri to become a permanent part of the team. Onions, tomatoes, watermelon, corn, squash, peppers, and potatoes—Elfri brought his own plants to the farm, got to work, and unknowingly demonstrated his unending commitment.
The work that Elfri gets to do every day is the same as his grandparents once did—farming in a way that cares for and works with the Earth. He hopes to continue working in agriculture as he is now but with his own farm one day; however, Elfri prefers to live in the present and take each day as it presents itself. Only second to his family, work is most important to Elfri. We are so appreciative that Elfri is a part of the Jubilee Climate Farm team!
